The irony of digital

So I was showing off my new website to a product designer at a UI/UX event but the wi-fi was so s*** that my browser page kept crashing.

That’s when the guy said to me “well that’s why you should always have an offline version”

What?

Isn’t that the most ironic statement?

I’m trying to show him my website! I mean, product.

That got me thinking about the word ‘product’. How did ‘product’ come to mean a virtual thing? A product used to mean a physical item you buy; now it’s a virtual item you use.

Picture this, in X years, products will only be virtual entities and kids in school will be taught about the evolution of products from physical to virtual. And the evolution of a real classroom to a VR classroom…
